About Us

Well Thank You Very Much Jerry!

We love sitcoms.
Particularly classic British sitcoms of the 1970s and 1980s.

They remind us of our happy childhoods, watching television with our families in the evenings, back when choice was limited to just three or four channels.

Gathering around a 21 inch televisual behemoth rented from Rumbelows, supping cocoa and enjoying episodes of The Good Life, Brush Strokes or Only Fools and Horses in a 4:3 aspect ratio….it seems in memory to be what we planned our entire evenings around (it certainly wasn’t homework!)

Now – 30 or 40 years later – we still love to watch classic sitcoms like Citizen Smith, Rising Damp, Porridge and more.

It’s like going to visit an old friend you immediately feel relaxed and comfortable being around!

Eggs Benedict

Eggs Benedict

Eggs is based in New Zealand but has lost none of his enthusiasm for British sitcoms, old and new.

A copywriter and digital marketer by day, Eggs unwinds by watching comedy shows and enjoys learning about the craft of comedy and comedy writing.

Check out Eggs Twitter and YouTube for various silliness including his ongoing attempt to win People magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ award and the occasional bad cover song.

Alison Barton-Simmons

Alison Barton-Simmons

A wonderful childhood filled with an intense curiosity and benign neglect allowed Alison the opportunity to discover the television of yesteryear.

Watching stuff she shouldn’t really have been watching broadened her popular cultural understanding and led to her gaining a pointless degree in media and cultural studies, only used now to take part in pub quizzes.

Born and raised in Bolton, Alison is a former journalist and youth worker, but now fits childcare of two kids and a bag making business around binge watching tv.

WE'D LOVE FOR YOU TO JOIN US

Week by week, we’ll be taking what some might legitimately consider to be a ridiculously deep dive into each and every episode of our favourite classic sitcoms.

When we’ve finished a series – and following a brief period of mourning – we’ll move on to the next classic sitcom from our childhood.

We’d love for you to join us on this odyssey!

You can watch along with us – we’ll post links to places you can watch the original shows either for free or via subscription streaming services – and then listen to the corresponding episode of the podcast to hear us examine the episode; the characters and character development; the writing; the fashion; and of course those cringeworthy bits and pieces of 70s and 80s nostalgia.

A Couple of SADDOs

We’re happiest when we can escape to the simple sitcom worlds of the 1970s and 1980s.

Our mission is to take a thoroughly exhaustive deep dive into every single episode of our favourite childhood sitcoms.

Starting with The Good Life, we’re examining the comedy, characters and camaraderie that had us so eagerly awaiting ‘same time, next week’ – back in the days when there were just 3 (or 4) channels to get your televisual fix!
